I've spent most of my working life with words. For almost 20 years, I was a sub-editor and journalist at DC Thomson, polishing copy for a wide range of newspapers and magazines. Spotting typos on menus and mentally rewriting clunky sentences has always been second nature to me.
A few years ago, I discovered something that changed everything: The Zentangle® Method. I’d always been creative, but this was different - it brought calm as well as creativity.
After years of struggling with anxiety, the impact was so profound that I trained as a Certified Zentangle Teacher and launched Create and Calm with Lisa to help others find the same sense of peace.
Today, I run my own business where I split my time between proofreading and editing and mindful creativity. Through lisacrow.co.uk, I support authors, small businesses, and students who want clear, confident writing they can trust. And through Create and Calm with Lisa, I continue to teach Zentangle, helping people escape the chaos of daily life and find some calm.
I live in Glasgow with my husband Bob and our six-year-old daughter Isla. When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me crocheting, learning Spanish, or indulging my love of purple and Johnny Depp.

The Zentangle® Method and Mindful Creativity

At school, I won the McNiven prize for German, although I now remember only the most basic phrases. These days, I speak a little Spanish — emphasis firmly on “little” — but I can follow Spanish series reasonably well. My favourite show is Velvet, a drama set in a 1950s Madrid fashion house, and it has definitely helped me learn more than any classroom ever did. I love the sound of the language, and I enjoy picking up new words and expressions whenever I can.

I’m a Glasgow girl through and through, and extremely proud of my Scottish roots - yes, even bagpipes, which are something that not everyone enjoys! Although I spent almost two decades living in Dundee, coming back to Glasgow was inevitable. These days I live in the village of Neilston, on the south side of the city. I share my home with my husband Bob and our gorgeous, funny six-year-old daughter Isla, who keeps us both entertained and on our toes.

It was no surprise that I became a Zentangle teacher because creativity has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I’ve tried everything from calligraphy and crochet to Spirograph and Neurographica - I've always enjoyed hands-on activities. I’ve also had a couple of short stories published, so I can happily claim to be a fiction writer too. Teaching Zentangle combines my love of creativity with my passion for helping others find calm.

Reading has always been one of my biggest pleasures - hardly surprising for someone who enjoys words as much as I do. I often have two or three books on the go at once, and there’s always a stack waiting on my bedside table. My taste is fairly varied, which is reflected in my favourite authors: Jane Austen for comfort, Stephen King for tension, and Peter James for a good page-turner. Books have shaped so much of my life, both personally and professionally.
